My name is Marize Malan and I'm from the label Morphe`. I was born and raised in Jozi (Our nickname for Johannesburg) and moved down to Cape Town after completing my studies in 2005 at The Design School Southern Africa. The word Morphe` means to outwardly transform ones self and change ones appearance. To me that is exactly what clothing is, a chance to be whoever you want to be, whether it's for a day or week...there are no rules in changing ones style if needed. My dad always says that change is as good as a holiday. I started to stock my label at Mememe in long street Cape Town in May 2006. My clothing is very unique in the sense that it has individual hand detailing that can be found on most of my garments and almost always a ‘a heart' shape detailing is featured somewhere. I love hearts! I also love using the image of the Protea by spray painting the image on T-shirts and dresses. Buttons fascinate me and I often go button hunting as they make great surface detail! My clothing is a lot like dress up for grownups since it always has an underlining playfulness to it. If you love to do the ‘layering' effect when you dress you will enjoy combining one of my garments with the rest of your wardrobe. I think that my clothing would attract wearers that feel excited about wearing colourful things and like to wear clothing that celebrates being alive. I cannot throw things away and my friends and family have all given up on organizing my messy flat, I like to think of it as organized chaos. I'm a firm believer in keeping odd scraps of fabric for ‘one day'. This very aspect is what inspired me for my range. The colourful mix and match of pieces of fabric that you just can't throw away, and finding ways to use or ‘re-cycle' (morph) them into something new and unique. The theme for the competition is new romance and that to me that is the fusion of floating florals and pleats boxed together with contrasting mix and match patterned tiers. Its femininity held upright by strong style lines that give structure amongst the whimsical, to flatter and dominate a room. The waist is a prominent focal point which is hugged by frills and ribbons. Layering fabrics over each other to create your own fabrics are exciting and all forms part of a range that gives flight to summer 2008/9. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Advertisement |
