A week later and everyone's still talking about the fashion crazes of Glastonbury this year. Muchaneta Kapfunde reports on her fabulous finds at the popular music festival.
Reporting from the fashion front line at Glastonbury last weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to have been able to enjoy internet access that was readily available, hazelnut lattes hot and yummy and good healthy food at Leons - I cant believe it was there either - which I can confess made finding myself knee high in mud, in a place were there was no visible mirrors (maybe that was a good thing) and where I had picked up the bad habit of constantly baby wiping myself due to fear of smelling easier to take. ![]() My arrival to Glastonbury had nothing to do with finding out how the Jay-Z controversy panned out, I was there on a mission to witness fashion madness at its best. ![]() Glastonbury is known as the place where fashionistas- both men and women- express their personality through their wild eccentric attire. This year it seemed that tutu's where a prerequisite for both the fashion conscious males and females. Among the eccentrics were the fashion lemmings of Glastonbury who seemed to adhere to a uniform of short shorts over 70 denim tights complimented by a tight rock n' roll t-shirt spawning some cool phrase. Having travelled for 4 hours on the very uncomfortable National Express coach I found this uniform style dull, dull, dull, and therefore I went forth and seeked the eccentric fashionistas whose outfits had something to say. ![]() Glastonbury fashionistas celebrated cut up t-shirts, plastic skirts, vintage addidas shorts, loose fitting cheese cloth tops, chunky knit cardigans, big 1980’s neon sunglasses, farmers green wellies instead of the expected Hunters, strippy tights, zebra stripped leg warmers, among many other Glastonbury trends. ![]() When it comes to Fashion Madness I learnt that Glastonbury fashion celebrates the eccentricity of fashion and takes on board trends that would usually be found gracing the highly fashionable streets of Brick Lane and dare I say it Carnaby Street. Who knows, maybe the pink tutu, or the bright neon Lycra leggings might make a come back. But one thing I do know is that the straw hat as worn by Alexa Chung and by all at Glastonbury, is definitely an item that will be on every fashionista summer wish list. ![]() ![]() www.muchaneta.co.uk Advertisement |
