Shipping is the physical process of transporting goods and cargo. Everything that we buy has some sort of shipping involved so it is important to know the three main types of shipping.
The shipping industry is responsible for 90% of the world's trade. Goods can be shipped by air, land and sea. Shipments by land is the most popular of the three. The advantage of shipping by air is that it is much quicker to ship items compared to by land or by sea. However, with air shipping you will still need to ship the goods by ground so that the goods can reach the airport from its origin. The advantage of shipping by land is that it is more affordable then air shipments and faster than sea shipments. Also shipping by land with vehicles such as trucks can take your items to your exact destination. In addition, land shipping is less restrictive to size, weight, quantity and type of goods that you want to ship. Merchant ships are used to transport goods and passengers by sea. ICS and ISF represent ship owners and ship management companies that operate the ships. The advantage of shipping by sea is that it is the most environmentally friendly and they are also the cheapest method of shipping. Similarly to air shipments, they will need the goods transported to the seaport from its origin by ground shipments. Also the ships are quite expensive to construct and are very large.
