Day 3 at GFW

Liverpool JMC

Day three and off to our first show at 12pm was Liverpool JMC. All of the collections were stunning and it was hard to decipher which was the best. Sat amongst the panel of judges for GFW I could see that it was as equally hard for them as us. We did have our eye on a few collections that ran past us.

Robyn Greenall started the collection with an all Devil Red collection. Absolutely beautiful, with an array of specialised draping and folding which was worked into the garments. Pretty shirts with collar bows. Coats where out in the form of trench style but a much heavier approach to the style.

Natalia Howard collection was based on a very classical approach. Lines were kept sleek, flat panelled trousers which were also cut very high on the waist. Kimono style coats were also present and worked onto an amazing shape.

Alexander Parry went out for all black with an added twist on fake fur which was adorned with detailing to back panels and cuffs.

Susan Black’s collection was very powerful and extremely striking with juicy colours such as bright lemon, acid pinks, lollipop blue and oranges. Leather was worked and slashed to create an Apache/1980’s biker girl look. I could see these pieces used as an alternative to the t-shirt you could easily update your look with one of these pieces, FANTASTIC!

Ashley Driscoll use of draping and layering was enchanting to watch.The colour palette was kept very simple with dove pinks.Influences crept in from captain pirate with bellowing sleeves in two of three layers.

Aureile Margaret went for a nautical theme, prints included bows which looked like they were actually on the garment which were actually prints.Next followed beautiful layered skirts with high bandeau waistbands Bustle skirts and with heavy layers captured the imagination of an updated Victoriana era.

Again colours were kept pale and minimal with powder blues, khaki’s and whites.

They always say save the best until last and it was very true in this insance. Francesca Kearns produced an eerie but mesmerising collection, very Victorian doll like with an amazing skill for intricate draping and a very cleaver use of reverse appliqué Huge billowing sleeves were used and ruffle collars gave the collection that added extra pizzazz. Wonderful!
