Autumn/Winter 08-09
Collection
London based Jasper
Garvida sets out to create a sensational womenswear collection for the autumn/winter 08-09 season. A passionate person and an innovative
designer, he realises exacting standards and top quality workmanship are the
only way to excite his audience. Inspiration through design, to create a
stunning collection. Garvida's collection is all
made to order, but a more commercial version will be available through online
retailer oli.co.uk from the end of July. Jasper is this year's Project Catwalk
winner.
The collection was inspired by the life of Gala Dali,
the famous surrealist muse and wife of Salvador Dali. Garvida's collection was
based from photographic references of Gala from the 30s to the 50s. As well as
the landscape and the vibrant culture of Barcelona.
The key look depended upon two contrasting elements -
hard and soft. Intricate bead-work and hand-embellished pieces in sequins and
glass beads, adorned over chiffon and silk.
Daywear consists of shiny tailored jackets in silver
and black and swing jackets that shimmer under the light. Along with a black
duchess satin dress with a wide silver mosaic corset. Heavily embellished pencil
skirts paired with soft silk chiffon and organza blouses.
For evening wear - long cascading dresses reminiscent
to a flamenco dancer, in grey and black silk print, and purple crepe and pewter
- all beaded in silver. On some pieces, shell discs are applied that create a
dramatic sound of shattering glass when worn. Finally, a mosaic of broken CDs
applied onto a moulded plastic Fifties style skirt - a reference to Gaudi, being
particularly eye-catching which delights the senses.
