The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden played host to Ashley Isham’s Autumn/Winter 08/09 collection.

Ashley Isham CollectionWith an audience of the usual fashionista suspects, Isham’s show also attracted the likes of supermodel Lisa Butcher, TV presenter Jenni Faulkner and radio personality Margarita Taylor. A promising start.

Isham‘s signature style of fabrics draped around the body to create beautiful feminine shapes took on a new experimental direction this season. New fabrics and sharp tailoring pushed the boundaries to create a myriad of high glamour eveningwear and a subdued yet sophisticated take on tailoring.

Taking inspiration from Veronica Lake in the 1940’s and the avant-garde style of the late sixties the femme fatale combination of floor length dresses, wide-leg trousers and tailored knee-length dresses encapsulated a modern collection with the best from old-fashioned glamour.

Jewelled brooches, patent skinny belts and fingerless gloves all added further luxury and glamour to the sophistication of the full-length gowns. The colours of teal, peacock blue and black mixed with the feminine contrast of vivid orange, purple and cobalt blue revealed a rainbow of contemporary colour.

Amongst the beautifully tailored evening gowns, the show stopping piece was the ultimate 1960’s inspired mini dress, with laser cut strips of printed fabric fringed to perfection.

A combination of luxury fabrics and couture detailing ensured Isham’s collection to be of the highest quality and with old-fashioned glamour modernised in a unique approach, this was the definitive femme fatale collection.
