LFW: Modernist - “Voodoo” Print E-mail
Abdul Koroma and Andrew Jones are the designers behind Modernist; a strong, individual and feminine brand. Formed in 2005 as an entry to Fashion Fringe this was Modernist’s second show at London Fashion Week.

With a title like ‘Voodoo’ a dark and mysterious air was immediately evoked. This was going to be collection of meaningful yet ambiguous garments and knowing Modernist thoroughly modern with illogical and hi-tech interpretations.

As always with Modernist the collection was derived from a complex structure of contrasts. Rules were dismissed with navy blue teamed with black, natural textures with synthetics and heavier knits with softer fabrics.

Aran knits were reworked in cashmere, silk georgette shredded to create ribbons draped over skirts and dresses and even adorned around the neck to give the impression of tribal neckpieces.

The pieces was executed with expertise with attention to sleeves a key focal point. Sleeves varied in silhouette, length and detail and in some cases extracted from the garment to create an abstracted shrug.

The colour palette was a subdued monochromatic blend of black and grey with short sharp bursts of flame red.

Overall a complex collection celebrating the modern and feminine woman of today.
