After
several months of rumours that she was to buy out the brand former TopShop
chief Jane Shepherdson has been announced as the new CEO of Whistles.
Ever since
she handed in her notice from her 18-year stint at TopShop the fashion industry
has been anticipating what she would do next.
Cited as one of the industry's most influential figures it was interesting to see that Shepherdson chose to work on an unpaid project with leading charity Oxfam in an advisory and mentoring role.
Late last year Shepherdson's interest in Whistles became apparent and yesterday (28/01/2008) it was confirmed that Shepherdson and her team had taken the brand over with private equity firm Baugur Group as the lead shareholder.
Shepherdson commented: "This is a very exciting venture I am thrilled to be taking over such an established British brand with enormous potential.”
She also admitted that the venture would be a complete move away from her role at TopShop and is looking forward to creating exciting collections and stimulating retail environments aimed at a new market sector.
