Student Blog: Seraphim – Croydon College - Part 2 Print E-mail

It’s been a busy week in camp SERAPHIM we went to TOP SHOP head office to meet with buyers Caren Downey and Rachel Proud where they gave us the brief to produce a T-shirt to be sold in the Oxford Street flag ship store during spring/summer 08. It was amazing to have a behind the scene looks at TOP SHOP especially as we spend so much of our student loan there.

One of the best parts of the experience was seeing KATE MOSS!!! Yes you heard right we saw the legend that it KATE MOSS. Imagine the scene………. A large group of students hanging around the Arcadia building already exited as we were allowed behind the scenes and got to meet some very influential buyers, when a man wielding an enormous lens rushed past us clicking away we were quite star struck and in awe of how impeccable and down to earth she looked. It was over in a minute as she rushed out of her chauffeur driven car and into the Arcadia building, but it was the icing on the cake.

After the Kate Moss moment we made our way to the flagship store where we were given a guided tour around the shop floor by personal shoppers the major upside to this was being able to take pictures and not being stopped by shop assistants. Over all it was a great day we almost didn’t want the experience to end.

Some of us also took a short day trip to Paris on Saturday (miraculously managing to avoid the rugby crowds) while there we made the most of the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of pure Parisian chic. We have to admit alfresco dining near the Eiffel tower while people watching was fun (frogs legs anyone!) The art nouveau inspired architecture was a great source for our design work, and logo’s, as the curves seem to fit in so well with our romantic theme.

So we’ve finalised our collection and have begun working on putting together our garments who knew sourcing fabrics, dyes, carrier bags, hangers and finalising our logo would be so stressful. The team is starting to split into departments now where we concentrate on our area of the project and feedback to the group during business meeting, very professional!  We’re absolutely enjoying every moment of team experience it’s been great to have a taste of what it’s like to work in the fashion industry.

We’d better get back to work now as there’s lots to do and not enough hours in the day.

Bye for now...
