Felicity Bradshaw

About me:

Owing to my Mediterranean heritage from my father together with my a hint of the Irish from my Mother , it is safe to safe that I’m  a fiery yet charismatic nineteen year old girl with dreams

Of making herself known within the fashion industry. My passions are eclectic to say the least; however I have a specific weakness for anything vintage and am inspired by a range of different

Characters stemming from Coco Chanel to F Scott Fitzgerald. It isn’t just individuals that fuel my inspiration; everyday events, ordinary people and music are amongst things that I love to be enthused by.

I'm a social butterfly that thrives being amongst others, a fashion maven, who is up on trends but who remains distinct in my own style. setting trends rather  than following them.

All of these meant that enrolling on fashion design course was nothing less than perfect for me and is currently in my second year at college. I hope to further my studies at Northumbria University next year.  Learning about something I love every day is something I see as a privilege.

Speaking of privileges I have been lucky enough to be chosen to take part in Profile, an annual fashion event based in London which showcases new and upcoming designers. My day kicked off at five thirty, with my mother creeping in with a cup of coffee and a croissant as a way to try and entice me from my bed, after a five minute or so snooze I realized I had to pull myself away from bed to take on the daunting task of choosing what to wear. Around about  dozen outfit choices later time was running out so I grabbed my shoes in one hand and my half eaten croissant in the other, ran down the stairs and out of the front door, down the drive and too the car, then found a spare ten seconds to actually put my shoes on. Hectic to say the least and the day had barely even begun.

I arrived at Preston train station still a little phased by what ungodly hour it was and got onto the train, after a short nap I thought it was probably about time to put some makeup and make myself look a little more presentable. 4 hours later, shoes and make up intact we arrived in London and headed for Fashion Enter's boutique in Croydon.  It was here we were told everything we needed to know about what the boutique does to aid new designers that want to make themselves known, which I found interesting and useful, we browsed the rails of clothes and I picked out a pair of hot pink metallic leggings that I instantly added to my imaginary shopping wish list, along with a number of gorgeous dresses by Josie. After watching the video for profile 6 and being told what our duties would be when we cam later in November, we shot off for lunch before taking the bus to Hayes Station to meet with people at Fashion Enters Headquarters. It's here we met Vanessa who told us to write a little about our day, and later on we're going to be meeting with Jenny and looking at some press coverage of profile. So that brings me to where  I am now sat in front of a hot pink wall with a pretty impressively funky illustration of Kelly Osborne staring down at me.

I cannot wait for profile, it's an amazing learning opportunity and I can't wait to experience a real fashion show, with real, raw talent to excite and inspire me. I've already learnt so much and in just one day. I can't wait to come back in November and become a part of the Profile team.

Bethany Davy-Day

About me:

I m a fashion student at Burnley college and I am studying 'National diploma in fashion and clothing' which I absolutely love. From the age of five I was already re-in acting London fashion week. Using my mothers clothe as props and my hallway as a catwalk. It was then that I realized that it was my passion to work within the fashion industry.

I am entranced by the buzz of the fashion world. I find the subject exiting, liberating and intriguing. Vogue is my bible keeping my up to date with the latest trends. My idol is Coco Channel, how inspiring her little black dress was and the impact that it had within the fashion industry. I found her approach to fashion inactive and inspiring in a classic and sophisticated way.

My first year at Burnley College has whizzed by and now my second year has started I am more exited than ever about the opportunities that the college is offering us. When we were told about the plans for a select few student to go to London and work at profile I new I had to do whatever it takes to make that dream come true. Our task was to sell a mannequin to our tutors who were quite difficult as there are only so many things to stay about a mannequin but thankfully I was chosen along with three others. I couldn’t believe it; I’m so exited to be given the chance and can’t wait until the show starts.

Today was our first chance to go down to London and meet people from the team. It was an early start. Starting at five thirty in todmorden and only 2 car drives, 1 bus ride, 2 train rides and an underground away we arrives in London fresh and ready to go. Our first stop of the day was in Croyden to go to the fashion enter boutique where we met Hayley the retail manger. She told us all about the boutique and what it offers to young up and coming designers. We had a chance to look at all the clothing my favorite piece in the shop was by Joe Blake. It was a beautiful dress slim at the waist with a net kick flare at the bottom with gold detail I loved the simple yet classic shape combining old and new. All the clothing in the boutique were so inspiring and original not one item was the same.

In the afternoon we were off to Heyes, where the fashion enter head office is located. There we met Vanessa who chatted a little about their website. She then asked us to write this blog.Today has been a fantastic experience to get to know a little more about fashion enter and what goes on at profile. I have loved looking at other designers work and getting all my questions answered about what they do. Theres an amazing buzz between everyone which clearly shows their dedication to fashion and up and coming designers.

Today has pumped me up even more about coming down in November when the show is on. I think it will be invaluable to me. Being in the fashion environment and taking to the people who have the same passions as me. The best way to learn is from other people and hands on working. I can’t wait to work in all the different areas getting to know what everybody’s duties are a different types of jobs that are involved. It’s the perfect opportunity and I am counting down the days till I go.

Rebecca Barlow

About me:

Hello, I’m Rebecca and i'm currently studying fashion at Burnley College. I have always been interested in fashion design along with the history of fashion and the creativity of other designers which is why I decided to choose the course as I knew this is what I wanted to be involved in.

My influences come from everyday life and the changes of society around us. I also have many favorite designers which included Manish Arohra and Vivienne Westwood. Vogue and other fashion publications act as my bible, they give me bags of creative ideas as well as an understand of new fashion trends. At college we have a number of classes such as computer aided design, illustration, textiles and pattern cutting. I would have to say that I love to illustrate as I love putting my ideas down onto paper. Though I also love the making side. I’m really looking forward to be taking part at Profile as it will give me a chance to be independent and a chance to see what happens in industry.

My day started pretty early this morning I was about to start my first day working with profile.  We began by traveling to London by train which took about 4 hours, though it did seem to fly. Then we had to catch another mode of transport to the boutique in Croydon. This is where we met Hayley who gave us an understanding of her job and what the boutique was about. We had a look around at the different collections that designers had taken to the boutique. The clothes were very unique and each had their own individual style. We then had to pick an item of clothing which we thought was the best seller and the designer I chose was Yumi. The collection was not too unique but I thought that the pieces were very well made and very flattering and pieces which would look good on anybody. We then talked about how the designers got involved with the boutique and what they go on to do, there were two designers who know have concessions in Topshop and some who also showcase their collections in other boutiques. We then had something to eat and headed for Hayes where we then went to Fashion Enter headquarters where we met Vanessa who talked us through the Fashion enter and fashion capital websites. Later, we will be meeting Jenny, who is the boss of Fashion Enter and who will be telling us what we will be doing when Profile commences in November.

Vikki Hirst

About me:

Ring ring, ring ring. Was the sound of the alarm going off at four this morning, as I reached out still half asleep for my dressing gown, my hectic day had started. This was the start of an exciting experience I thought to myself. I headed out of the door at 5.30am coat in one hand and bag in the other. As I started to draw closer to the train station I had lots of thoughts about what the day had in store and possible question topics flying around everywhere. I went to grab a coffee and a bite to eat before commencing on the long train journey.

Getting of the train feeling tired yet refreshed and raring to go we headed over to Fashion Enter, Profiles boutique. Walking in it was just like I had expected a selected range of designs all well laid out to a professional standard, things hung up my metal chains and quirky displays all around. We met Hayley who was the retail manager before having a chance to look around the shop and look at the designers work. I found it really interesting looking at how the designers varied and the quality of there work. All the collections had a different twist but one in particular which cought my eye was Fannyanne. Her designs as specially drew me in by the fact that they were wearable and not to outrageous however each has quirky twists, such as cut out backs or ruffles in unusual places. After having had an insight into some of the competition I will be facing myself in a few years, we continued to have a deeper insight into Profile. We did this by watching some show clips from previous shows on the website and looking at the site in more detail. After all the questions we could think of we went for some lunch and reflected on our thoughts of the shop.

And now, I am sat in the main offices writing you this blog but I guess you will be wondering why I am here and what I hope to gain from this experience. Well I am currently half way through studying a national diploma in fashion and clothing at Burnley College. I want to go into the fashion industry to convey my interest in design and exhibit my creativity in producing garments. I have a great passion for being characteristic and individual in my work. My enthusiasm lies in all aspects of fashion and that is shown through both my personality and style. I am a witty character that enjoys mixing with new people and experimenting in new experiences and I think that Profile is a fantastic opportunity to do this. From Profile I hope to gain experience for working out there in the design industry and take on board useful tips for further goals.
