Ismail Erbil was born in Turkey in 1979 and grew up in Germany and London from the age of 7 onwards. He studied fashion at London College of Fashion from 1995 to 1999 and completed a BA Honours in fashion womenswear at Central Saint Martins in 2002. He soon began working as a freelance designer and creative pattern cutter. His most recent collection entitled Urban Nymph brings together two methods of working. Free flowing draping and creative fabric manipulation is juxtaposed with a more structured look of sharp lines, panelling and pattern cutting.  Ismail uses colour to energise his designs. He experiments with a natural colour palette of greens on the one hand with a more synthetic sense of colour which includes silver and fluorescent yellow on the other. The tension and energy he creates exists in the hybrid patterns and forms that he seeks out in the design process whereby boundaries between elements become blurred; the built environment and natural structures intertwine giving rise to an urban-nymph sensibility. Sharp and defined panels are cut in fabrics of shifting emerald greens. Tangled sea-weed-like strips of material are bound with fluorescent and silver trimmings, dyed and overlaid to create structure and volume.
