Hi,
I’m Nora Begoña from Argentina and I’d be delighted to share some fashion trends from this side of the globe with you.
Though temperatures are still a bit low, designers have already launched their suggestions for the next summer.
Last week (August 24- 25-26-27th) was Buenos Aires Fashion Week (BAF) and we had the opportunity to see what we will wear next summer in these latitudes.
As it has been noted for the past few seasons there are trends to suit every taste and age.
Four main groups to be mentioned:
The FUTURIST: Designer Mariano Toledo was inspired by mirrors and everything shimmered in silver, white and neutral tones.
Trench coats influenced by the 60’s, mini shorts with slim-line jackets and just a touch of colour on baggy dresses inspired by the 80’s.
CHILD LIKE: If you want to feel like a little girl taken from a fairy tale, you must adopt Nadine Zlotogora’s style:
Her designs were inspired by games and childhood. Loose girlish dresses, featuring long ruffles, chemise dresses that skimmed the hip, floral jackets and overalls. All connected with earthy neutral tones such as greens, whites, beige and a touch of black.
ROMANTIC: If you do not feel like dressing like a girl but you’re still a romantic at heart, why not take a look at Mariana Dappiano suggestions:
Crochet dresses and tunics in black and white. A noticeable trend for S/S 08 is knitted crochet, used all-over as a dress or as a handcrafted detail. Don’t miss it – it looks great and unique.
ETHNIC: We still have the ethnic look but this time it’s been invaded with colours from our lands. Juana De Arco’s collection is inspired by the Parana River and includes nature infused women splashed with water, light and full of colourful flowers. Nature is you. She proposes pure cotton and hand-stitched embroidery.
If, however, you are a rocky urban girl you can’t miss Ay Not Dead full of fluorescent colours and loose long T-shirts. They also suggest black and white together but never loose track of their rocky theme.
As you can see we have many options whatever your taste – but if one single trend must stand out it would have to be:
Dresses, dresses, dresses. The dress has returned and it seems it is here for a good while yet.
Lengths: As you feel; short minis or maxi and extra long. As you wish.
Next time I will talk about new trends in Argentinian accessories and how we can adapt the new styles to wear them every day.
See you,
Nora Begoña
