The Poor Unfortunate Life of Shoes By Petrina De Gouttes Print E-mail
Diamantes or no diamantes, we really should worship our shoes. After all they protect us from the British weather as well as the unpleasantness of people’s pets. So surely we owe them something? Like, I don't know - a pedicure?

I dedicate this blog entry to the woman with the appalling toes who I saw on a train recently. Seeing her discoloured toenails led me to question: a) why would you ever choose to show them to the public? And b) how do your shoes cope with this!

Be them Jimmy Choo's or Primark’s finest, the loving care that goes into your most treasured wardrobe pieces (mine being dresses) should surely also be practiced on your shoes. That means, if being extremely eager to show your toes to the world, paint them at least! I already hate feet as it is. I understand that it may be hard to cover up with the ever-increasing summer sun, but try?

I have never bought open-toed sandals and I am not too keen in investing in a pair of Birkenstock's as I don't want to reveal my toes to passersby, not because they'll fall into a coma at the sight of them but because, in my opinion, it's unnecessary.

With different seasons come different responsibilities. In the winter months, clearly you won’t be thinking about whether you have shaved your legs but perhaps instead whether you should be wearing 60 denier tights with that skirt instead of 40 denier. This is reversed in the summer, with more worrying problems, including the condition of your toenails. It should just be common sense that you don’t display your winter monstrosities to the waiting blue skied world.

Shoes!

I feel sorry for shoes, simply because it is they that have to deal with this problem head on. You may not think this is a valid reason to go into detail about why people should think before they act, but shoes are there to make our feet look nice! We should give our two-cents by pampering them here and there.

So give me something to nice admire on my ever-lasting train journeys this summer. Please?
