Art and Design Full Time 1 Year Commences Monday 27th August 2007 DESCRIPTION This course offers a broad based programme of NC units covering a wide range of subjects in both fine art and design disciplines which provide essential core skills, practical experience and knowledge to prepare students for further study at a higher level. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Non-advanced Level: For people with Standard Grades, relevant work experience or have successfully completed a relevant course at introductory level. WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? This course is designed for students who wish to undertake the art and design exam at either intermediate 2 or Higher level. HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis but includes an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of written reports, practical project work and visual presentation. College staff undertake most of the assessment of student work and the exam work is sent to the Scottish Qualifications Authority for assessment. PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Students successfully completing this course may progress to the Portfolio Building Art & Design course in order to move onto HNC/D courses. Art and Full Time 1 Year Commences Monday 27th August 2007 DESCRIPTION The course is designed to enable students to build up a portfolio of art and design work. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Non-advanced Level: For people with Standard Grades, relevant work experience or who have successfully completed a relevant course at introductory level. Applicants studying on the WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? This course is designed to encourage students to experiment with art and design in order to create portfolios for application to the HND Art & Design course or art college. These portfolios will allow students to express their own identify and begin to make choices with regards to their chosen route in art and design. HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of practical project work and visual presentation. College staff undertake most of the assessment of student work. PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Students successfully completing this course can progress to the HND Art & Design or alternatively to university for an art or design degree. It introduces students to a broad range of practical skills in both two and three dimensions and develops a critical awareness of the historical, contextual and social issues relevant to art and design practice. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Advanced: This course is suitable for people with Higher Art or with previous experience/good achievement in art and design from a non-advanced course. WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? This course is designed to allow students to experiment to an advanced level with Art and Design projects. Self generated projects are given so that students may specialise in one of the art and design areas in which they have been taught, to create a portfolio with regards to their chosen subject. HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of practical project work and visual presentation and written reports. College staff undertake most of the assessment of student work. PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Students successfully completing this course may wish to apply to University for entry into the second or third year of a degree. Fashion and Textiles Full Time 1 Year Commences Monday 27th August 2007 DESCRIPTION This course consists of a programme of Int 2 and Higher units and is designed to provide students with the necessary experience, knowledge and skills in textiles and fashion design through a range of creative and technical projects. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Non-advanced Level: For people with Standard Grades, relevant work experience or who have successfully completed a relevant course at art and design introductory level. WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? This course is designed for students who are interested in a career in Fashion and Textiles and wish to experiment in these areas before progression to a higher level of study. HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? You will be mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of practical projects and visual presentations. College staff undertake most of the assessment of student work. PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Students successfully completing this course may progress to the HND Stitched Textiles and Fashion course then to university to complete a degree in either fashion, textiles, costume, illustration or accessory design. HND Professional Photography and Imaging Full Time 2 Years Commences Monday August 27th 2007 DESCRIPTION This course integrates conventional wet photographic processes with current digital imaging techniques. It has been developed to encompass a broad spectrum of photographic practice and provide a thorough grounding in the fundamental aspects of modern photography. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS This course is suitable for those with Highers, who have completed the Higher syllabus or have who successfully completed a non-advanced College course. For those returning to education, life skills and experience in the workplace may allow entry subject to availability. WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? Those who wish to pursue a career in photography, either entering employment or progressing to degree level study. HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of essays, reports, presentations, case studies and practical projects. Most of the assessment work is undertaken by College staff. PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Successful completion will assist students to enter employment as professional photographers or work on a freelance basis. Alternatively, students may wish to progress to a degree course in which case, entry to Stage 2 or 3 may be possible.
