With the last model stepping off the catwalk on Monday night, the Autumn/Winter 07/08 prêt-a-porter shows ended in Paris. Here is a round up of the key themes, trend shapes and must-haves that the French capital saw over the past week.

Boyfriend Chic / Wide-Leg

Not new, but part of the fresh tailored look. Wide-leg trousers come boasting down the catwalk this season. If you’re tall then these will definitely flatter your body shape and shorter women can also work the look if they opt for high-waisted versions. Teamed up with the trousers are blazers – cropped and feminine as a contrast or loose cut with wide shoulders for the ultimate boyfriend look. You will find a variety of styles to choose from.

Fur and Feathers

Paris didn’t see many prêt-a-porter shows that didn’t feature fur in some form. Well, we don’t want to encourage you to buy real fur, but the imitations might up-value your wardrobe. Wear an opulent big coat, choose a cropped cape or simply accessorize your look with a cuddly collar. Speaking of accessorizing, why shouldn’t you adorn yourself with borrowed plumes? They work as head jewels, on garments, even on boots…

Metallic Reflections

Gold and silver shades remain big for next winter; this time less party-look - more tailored and sophisticated style. Dresses vary in length (everything from maxi to micro), material (shiny satin to nylon and treated leathers) and applications (nothing to roses and bows) – only tailoring is more defined - looks like the trend for volume is over. The future will see sleeker silhouettes still emphasizing the waist with fit closer to the body.

Colour Explosion

You thought the Spring/Summer 07 collections were jam-packed with bright shades? Well, of course you’re right, but astonishingly Autumn/Winter 07/08 will follow suit. Instead of an all black model crowd as seen in London, the Parisian catwalks saw a wide range of rainbow colours – namely electric blues, hot reds, deep purples, mustard yellows, emerald greens and orange! Colour, not shape will stand out next season. Hopefully this doesn’t mean that the coming winter is going to be dull as such and therefore needs brightening up…

Gloves and Hats

…are the must-have accessory of the season. Long gloves that perfectly match your evening dress are accompanied with cropped jackets and blazers. To add the ‘je ne sais quo feeling to the rock chick look go for small biker gloves in neon brights to infuse some colour to your outfit. The styling gurus also had something up their sleeve for the fashionista’s head. Well! Hats off then, errrr, on I mean.
