Mela reveals her limited edition range due to show at the Deptford Ethical Fashion Show this Friday...
Hello All at Fashion Capital, Without further delay here’s some information about the Ethical Fashion Show I am participating in on the 2nd of March: For the event, I worked on a limited edition range of silk ponchos and blouses, adding some second-hand elements and set up a little cameo (hope so) of shows with dancers from Laban Centre in Deptford (no Size 0 models then)!
Wish me good luck! Regards, Mela

The event is being organised by Lewisham Council and TradeCraft as part of Fair Trade Fortnight. About Ethical Fashion includes products and companies that: Make a positive difference to the environment and society Do not test their products on animals Try and ensure the majority of their energy needs are met by renewable energy Increase public awareness of alternative products and services that do not have a negative impact on the environment or humanity Offer their products and services at fair, affordable prices Where possible, do not use harmful chemicals in their products or in the provision of their services Provide products and services that are environmentally friendly and ethically sound (Source: The Green Environment Guide). The aims of the Deptford Ethical Fashion Show: To raise awareness amongst the general public about fair trade & ethical fashion, including letting people know where they can purchase this locally. To raise the profile of fashion design talent/ local businesses. To inspire other fashion retail businesses in the borough to stock fair trade & ethical products (adding on to that, to help encourage local supply chain development). To help raise the profile of trendy Deptford, Lewisham & South London as THE place for ethical fashion. For more infomation and reservations call Mela Boev: 07910548866 Mela Boev is a textile designer and a kind of ambassador of the hand made: she believes that if design is a way of communication, then hand-crafted fashion tells us of uniqueness against mass production; names rather than labels, people rather than industries.
We could say she works for a “slow-design”, using only fine natural fabrics, hand dyed, painted and hand finished with much care. This is Mela Boev’s Hand Made philosophy: a strong faith in the poetry of making.
In this collection you will see her silk delicate scarves and soft separates marrying vintage details and second-hand items revisited and revitalised in her childichic style.
