Editors’ Blog: December 06 Print E-mail

It’s a funny old time - the week running up to Christmas. All those last minute bits and bobs along with the humongous food shop. I think supermarkets are shut for all of 1, possibly 2 days, and yet everyone seems to be stockpiling like they are being rationed for a month.

V&A light/sound installation

Festivities aside, I recommend checking out the interactive light / sound installation currently on display in the V&A’s John Madejski Garden. Go when it’s dark to experience the full effect. Created by Robert Del Naja and Neil Davidge from Massive Attack along with lighting designers United Visual Artists, columns of light and sound react to the movements of those participating. I was hooked, despite feeling chilled to the bone; I walked from column to column mesmerized by the sounds and visuals. The installation is free to visit and open to the public until the end of January 07.

I also popped by Ram Shergill’s studio this week where he was busy shooting a look-book for Noa Couture plus images for his own magazine – Drama. Due to launch early next year the bi-annual glossy is shaping up into a very beautiful read indeed. More on Drama magazine later. The shoot combined dancers with models, male and female. One model, accompanied by her mother, was the talk of the shoot. Her face evoked the striking combination of strength and fragility. Obviously with her Mum being there she was young and new to the experience. I was, however, surprised to hear that she was a very nervous 14 yrs old. Here’s a visual taster of what went on….

Here at FashionCapital we get sent e-mails aplenty, unfortunately that does include some junk but we manage to sort our way through it all. Vanessa and I agree that this unexpected e-mail tackling the issue of smelly feet has to be the giggle of the week. While we cannot vouch for the product it’s great to see that they are having fun with it instead of pussyfooting, if you’ll excuse the pun, around.

General editing & writing duties aside, I’ve been busy snapping those creative festive windows. Visual merchandisers at Selfridges, Harvey Nicks and Harrods have gone all out with some truly original, stunning windows and in-store displays. Personally I quite like Zara’s windows, fairly minimal and sleek they manage to make high street look high end. What are your favourites?

Until next time.
