The course This course enables you to gain a comprehensive knowledge of all the main skill areas needed to work within the fashion and textiles industry:
- Design research
- Business studies
- Design development
- Marketing
- Presentation
- History of design and fashion
- Pattern cutting
- CAD CAM
- Production
- Visual studies
- Printed textiles
- Surface decoration
The course is taught through a series of project based assignments. You will work in light, airy studios, using industry standard equipment, including a full range of IT and multi-media resources.
Each year there is a major European visit, alongside the opportunity to visit Premiere Vision fabric fair in Paris, as well as UK visits to galleries, exhibitions, design studios, and the Clothes Show Live at Birmingham's NEC.
Assessment You will be continuous assessed throughout the course with regular monitoring and review.
Career prospects You may progress onto the one year (top up) BA (Hons) Degree at Salisbury College, or another institution. Many students gain immediate employment within the industry.
Entry requirements You are normally expected to have one of the following:
- A pass in a BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in Fashion
- A pass in a BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in General Art and Design
- Relevant industrial experience.
At interview, you will be asked to show a relevant portfolio of your work, with samples of garments if available. You must be able to demonstrate an awareness of fashion and a strong commitment to a career in the fashion industry.
