A few days ago I brought my first Vogue. As silly as it may sound, I didn’t think I would be able to handle it! A 15-year old girl, strolling down the road, clutching the fashion bible.
The magazine breathes so much elegance and sophistication; it’s as though you should have a ceremony of some kind to welcome you into its glossy pages. The contributors through out the magazine’s 90 years are some of whom I idolise, David Bailey (who my mother constantly praises), Virginia Woolf and Plum Sykes.
The pages that cover the David Bailey shoot are amazing. Marie Helvin looks ridiculously beautiful pictured with Lily Cole whose sharp bone structure is emphasised by the shadowing. The simplicity is extraordinary and the interviews are outstanding.
I don’t think I have truly adored fashion and beauty so much until now. Each page is inspirational and it makes me want to work even harder to be apart of this industry and learn everything I can about fashion, design and writing so that I can accelerate in my chosen profession. I’m not even half way through it, and I have already witnessed the dedication and history that the pages of the publication hold. It’s astonishing the changes that can take place within 90 years, and the editors who have influenced the readers of the magazine, displaying clothes as a form of art, and the wearer as the exhibitionist rather than the hanger.
