She’s gorgeous, she’s sexy, she’s walked the catwalk and ‘she’ is Victoria Beckham. Naming Audrey Hepburn as one of her style icons, Victoria is to release a book that is set to give the reader a ‘practical guide to looking your best.'
Being an avid reader of The Sunday Mail’s YOU Magazine, I was delighted at receiving part one of the many extracts from her new book. Unfortunately that delight didn’t last for long. Flicking through the first few pages I soon realised that this book was not intended for young teenage girls who grin like Cheshire cats at being given £40 to spend on a pair of TopShop jeans, but for the women who shop at the boutiques on Sloane Street.
Now when I look at Victoria Beckham, I see nothing that would trigger any kind of teenage fashion following. Her image and style appears to be flawless yet eager to impress, and now compare that to Kate Moss, who is the reigning Queen of teenage fashion inspiration, Kate is reality. She wears TopShop, her boyfriend isn’t one of the most attractive men in Britain, she makes mistakes and she can wear anything and make it look good!
So, can young people actually relate to Victoria Beckham? I asked a few friends what they thought about her…
Brittany said: “Style is a talent you are born with to be envied…Victoria Beckham was not born with it.”
Ruby said: “She always has good style and looks nice in anything she wears. I really want her book because it sounds interesting and I think she is a fabulous fashion role model.”
With friends like Roberto Cavalli, Dominion Dolce and Stefano Gabbana does she know anything about style or is she just a lady with a big budget? By Petrina De Gouttes |
