Jo Carey street trends - Winter Coats Print E-mail
For chic winter wardrobes a full-length warm winter coat is a must.

Single- or double-breasted structured coats span eras and style references with military-inspired styles creating most impact on the street.  Think romantic Russian uniforms rather than combat-wear, with brass buttons, frogging, pleated pockets, belt-loops and piping all proving essential details.

Duffle styling proves a hot look also for practical but retro effects with toggle fastenings an alternative to buttons. Easy-to-wear black is key across styles, although, navy, chocolate, brown and charcoal provide substitute colour-ways.  Belted-waists are a key a key trend for outerwear in general, with trenchcoats providing a lighter weight option.

This season’s penchant for chequered print-ways, voluminous proportions and folkloric influences all work well for outerwear.  Bishops sleeves and bubble hems are directional, as are full-skirted silhouettes - adding feminine appeal to three-quarter-length coats with belted waists and gently voluminous skirts.

On the catwalks, designers such as Matthew Williamson incorporated decorative border patterns to belts, yokes and cuffs.  Others such as Anna Sui and BCBG opted for bright appliqués and naive embroideries.  Expect to see more of the same filtering down to a highstreet near you.
