With a winter chill resolutely in the air, use your imagination to create inventive ways of keeping warm.
Knitwear always proves a key player in the midst of trends at this time of year. Voluminous shapes are key for jumpers and cardigans with cape-like silhouettes or 80’s-style batwing sleeves proving most directional. Other knitwear options include home-spun Aran and cable styles or holey knit effects.
As to be expected the perennial scarf makes a welcome return in extreme-length and extra-chunky hand-knitted variations. Cobweb effects are key for multi-wrapping styles. For cute and kitsch accessories choose from pom-poms, mittens or earmuffs, or experiment with leggings layered over trouser legs as opposed to boots. Layer tops beneath cropped sleeve jackets and dresses over jeans.
A trend more difficult to spot on the street due to layers of winter clothing is embellished, decorative knitwear. Beaded or metallic trimmed, highly decorative yokes for polonecks were a hot look on the autumn/winter 05/6 catwalks, with designers such as Matthew Williamson, Oscar de la Renta and Michael Kors all adapting the look. |
