A fashionable answer to holiday woes

Just how do you give back this holiday season when you are strapped for cash, have already maxed out your credit cards (the ‘s’ being the operative letter), and have WAY too many people on your Christmas list?  The answer my friends’ is the following: fashionable volunteering.  Just how exactly are the two related? The answer is simple, fashion freelancing.

The opportunities attributed to freelancing are endless: freelance writing for webzines, interning for fashion magazines/labels, volunteering at fashion shows, helping out on fashion shoots etc. etc. the list goes on and on. In what other industry can the act of giving be rewarding to all parties involved?

As I have learnt from my own experiences, freelancing offers unexpected publicity: access to fashion shows, parties, exposure to industry, and life lessons on all sorts of levels- i.e. what not to write/say/do.  For any fashion graduate, it represents one of the best methods of launching oneself into industry – presenting many potential avenues for future endeavors.

After all, let’s face it, time is precious, especially around the holiday season. Trips to Aruba, the Dominican, and everyone’s favourite Florida engage the majority of peoples’ minds while the other 50% is absorbed with fabricating elaborate strategies on how to find the latest Dora the Explorer doll. So, give a little. By offering your services on set, shows, and in the workplace you’re not only establishing great relations, your more importantly giving the gift of time.
