Traditional fabrics such as tweeds, worsteds and barratheas, are a key trend to watch as the season progresses.
As is usual for this time of year, traditional and chequered fabrics begin to creep back onto the streets. This season, traditional fabrics go hand in hand with folkloric looks, duffle-styling and new voluminous silhouettes for outerwear such as cape-like coats and generous blouson jackets.
Traditional country cloths hint towards an English eccentric feel. When combined with modern accessories the look is more contemporary. Checks and blanket plaids create rustic effects, with every weight and weave covered, from lightweight and loosely structured fabrics to more solid bonded tweeds.
Classic woven fabrics are key for outerwear, jackets, also pinafore dresses (at Anna Sui), slouchy wide-leg and plus-four vintage-style trousers. Earthy tones of grey and brown palettes are key. Think gravel, slate, charcoal and taupe. Watch for tartan and argyle checks adding a flash of colour or combine classic fabrics with folkloric-style bordered knitwear.
