Fashion Capital Diary: Feminity

Today was the first day of starting the course. Although I didn’t think of fashion as a career at first, when the opportunity to do this course come up I thought it might be very interesting and help in expanding ideas for jobs in the future. As I am taking AS photography and graphics, I thought I might be able to coincide ideas and tips I get from the course to what I could do in my work.

I learnt what the programme consists of and how it allows non-established fashion designers the chance to get recognised. I think this is a great idea as it helps people do what they want to and gives them extra encouragement.

I hope to learn more about the fashion world, as fashion photography is an idea I have been thinking of. Also the ability to create garments is a major plus and am pleased to be this opportunity to learn more and meet designers who have been there and achieved what they wanted.

FashionCapital Diary: Irresistable

Diary- 9th November 2005

As it was our group’s first lesson, we were thrown in at the deep end!

To begin with we logged on to have a look at the other student profiles and diary entries. This gave us an idea of what was required from us for this course, seeing all the other peoples work, only made us want to get started straight away, wasting no more time!

We then began to get cuttings for magazines such as Vogue and Glamour, to get stick onto our mood boards. All of us felt that this task inspired us with the wide variety of colour and design that can then be effectively entailed into our overall designs.

Overall as a group we cannot wait to really get stuck in with all the hard work, so that we can reap all the benefits of this amazing opportunity.

From the lesson today, we learnt that there is such a wide range of ideas, styles and colours that can be put together to produce something individual and stylish.

FashionCapital Diary: The Lads

Today is the third session of our six-week course with the LFF, and things have moved on considerably from our first meeting with them! This week each team displayed their mood boards, an assortment of pictures, images, cuttings and colours – everything and anything that has inspired our work. We all found creating the mood boards exciting but also new, with most of us never being involved with the industry and its workings – a mood board was a concept completely new to us. Having said that, the standard of work in our opinion was brilliant; so much time and effort has been put into every single board, and we’re sure each team was really proud of theirs.

For the second half of the hour, we had a guest speaker kindly come and talk to us about her experiences and highs and lows of becoming a fashion designer. The talk was really helpful and a useful incite into not only the high, but also the lower points of working in the industry. The main focus of the talk was that no matter how hard the work is, and the amount of hours you put into an item of clothing, nothing can compare to the feeling you have when you see somebody wearing your own design. We felt this was really inspiring, and has definitely given us some food for thought on pursuing a career in the fashion industry!
