Graduate Fashion Week, the place to be this week. Read on for our daily update......
Hot to trot at Graduate Fashion Week….in more ways than one!
Despite the sweltering heat at GFW absolute credit to organisers for an
excellently planned venue. The large marquee could only be improved by a
desperate need for greater ventilation.
Now celebrating its thirteenth year GFW continues to be the world’s biggest
student showcase and this season there are new additions such as the GFW
mentoring Team. This year’s event also sees four new sponsors with the continued
of Top shop.
This season sees the emergence of a new network support service for GFW.
Chaired by Bruce Montgomery Design Director of Daks .The team has been specially
designed to advise and support students during their first year after graduation
as they take their first all important steps into the heady world of the fashion
industry.
“New injections of talent are so important to our industry and as members of
the newly formed GFW Mentoring Team it’s important that we nurture winning
students and help them reach their full potential. Bruce Montgomery, Daks.
Another new concept for GFW is “An audience with….” Held at 1pm on 9th June.
This has been designed to give both industry and students an insight into the
talent behind some of the world’s biggest fashion success stories. The inaugural
audience is with Christopher Bailey talking about his work at Burberry in
conversation with Colin McDowell from Sunday Times Style.
Industry backs this years GFW BIG TIME. L’Oreal Paris cosmetics are the new
make-up sponsors, L’Oreal Professional sponsor all the hair creations whilst
Waterman will be sponsoring a newly created award, The Waterman Fashion
Illustration Award. The final sponsors are Campari.
David Jones Director and Chair of LFF and participant on the newly formed
Mentoring Panel “Despite the heat the show got off to an excellent start with a
packed auditorium to see the Middlesex show. In a very varied programme of
student work I was particularly impressed with the calibre and high standard of
workmanship shown today. Given that the remaining shows maintain this high
standard I feel confident that this is going to be an exceedingly successful
Graduate Fashion Week. I would hope to have the opportunity to update you
tomorrow when I review several more excellent programmes.”
