Week One: Glamour?

So where shall I start? This week being the final week of exhibitions for my autumn/winter 2004 collection, one would think I was incredibly hectic. In reality, quite the opposite. Well in my life at least.

As well as preparing for the show (ironing, more ironing and sewing on the odd button or two - oh and printing out more bloody press releases and price lists - I’ve just moved, again, the fourth time in two years – you’d think I’d have learnt by now ;-)), I’m dealing with production for last season. Not too much of a hassle, since the orders were reasonable and I work with a factory who have thus far proved themselves to be most definitely worth their salt. So it’s little things like getting the fabric dyed, buying 600 odd buttons, 20 metres of webbing tape etc. that I find myself dealing with. Fairly straightforward, or so one would think.

Problem is, I have this fantastic ability to make things far more complicated than they actually are. I do have a car, only I prefer to cycle, it's better for my lungs (questionable I know with London’s pollution) and actually far quicker; whoever saw a cyclist stop at a red light? So I’m cycling with 40 metres of fabric, cut into 5 metre strips on my bike. Drop it off at the dyers, then pass by my PR showroom to collect my rail of samples. I’m strapped for cash, so what better way to make some hard currency than sell them?

Which means I now have 2 huge bags of clothes on my handle bars, the fabric just dyed tied to the back, the webbing tape (all 20 metres of it) in my bag slung over my shoulder and my new extra long scarf flying in the wind. Who says fashion isn’t glamorous ;-)
