PERSONALISATION – CREATING A NEW INTIMACY FROM LONDON TO TOKYO

15/7/04

J P K presents a new line of hand-made, one-off trans-seasonal garments, exclusively made to order.

The collections are being launched at:

LFF Boutique/Showroom

Kingly Court

Off Carnaby Street

London

W1

YMF Design Europe  have already placed orders for their Tokyo store with orders also being discussed with five other boutiques in Japan who are interested in stocking JPK .

Natash Beddingfield has recently purchased a number of items from the new collections, with further items being made to order.

The Collections:

Whilst the main body of J P K collections are constructed using new fabrics, inspiration is often derived from garments of the past.

Tops and dresses are hand made, beautifully constructed from carefully sought out vintage scarves, with tape back ties, the idea being that pieces become enhanced through ageing and imperfection, each a totally unique hand-crafted personalised piece.

Gathered and full draped skirts are amongst other key pieces constructed using a wide variation of fabrics ranging from reconstructed vintage candlewick bedspreads to beautiful silks, all individually draped to create unique and intriguing shapes. Hidden pockets and intricate hand cross-stitch detail add a long lost personal touch with deep stretch waistbands allowing for a comfortable low-rise fit. Emphasis is on texture, shape layering and intricate seam detail, every piece is individually crafted down to the finest detail.

If amongst the pieces you are unable to find exactly what you desire garments/small collections can be made to order to your specification and will be designed, handmade and delivered to you.

The majority of pieces are trans-seasonal, taking you comfortably and confidently through summer and winter. Due to the one-off nature of the collections stock is constantly changing allowing both retailers and consumers fresh and exciting designs from month to month as opposed to season to season.

PROFILE

Joanne Paula Kay has been producing the label J P K since graduating from Leeds University in 2002.

Since completing her BA in Fashion design Joanne has worked for a number of London’s Leading designer’s as well as one of Britain’s top buyers; Rita Britton.

A scholarship from the Crafts council awarded in 2002 has allowed Joanne to develop the line over the previous two years finding its niche market. Three seasonal collections have been produced to date, the last shown in February 2004 over LFW at the Metropolitan Hotel, London.

Joanne now works part time for Burberry while continuing to produce collections and private commissions for her own label JPK and various freelance contracts for other labels. In September Joanne will be taking up a place at the Royal College of Art to complete an MA in womenswear, where she will continue to design and produce one-off pieces to commission alongside trans-seasonal short-order collections.
