Autumn 04 predictions from Pure Print E-mail

Each season Pure just keeps getting better with over 800 brands exhibiting this season - buyers were indeed spoilt for choice. With the addition of Pure Accessories and Intimate Body & Beach showing next door, February’s Pure attracted more than 8,000 visitors, a rise of 11% across the three days year on year. As per usual the regular catwalk shows and Draper’s trend prediction presentations provided a focused source of inspiration. Fashion Capital went along to check out some of the commercial trends that the show had to offer for autumn/winter 2004/05.

Eclectic Brit

Overall mood: Ladylike prim is given a contemporary twist with a touch of eclectic styling and fabric combinations.

Roll neck capes and jackets with porthole sleeves, inset wedge skirts and dresses, pencil skirts and pussy bow blouses. Ruffles and frills, cropped pants, tops with puffed cap sleeves, pleating and fine knit sweaters & tank tops.

Colour palette: Dark tones of black, brown, slate grey, berry and purple mixed up with print, texture and accent shades of cream, pale pink, muted green and fun brights.

Eclectic Brit Brands: Olly London, East, Utzon, Brax, Almost Famous and Marc O’Neill.

Global Traveller

Overall mood: Layering is going to be big for autumn and the Global Traveller trend embraces mismatch layering from a variety of cultures. The Far East is the dominant influence, along with 70’s hippie chick styling and contrasting prints.

Key pieces: Wrap-over belted kimono style jackets and tops, high waisted trousers, patchwork effects, tiered skirts, chunky knits, ponchos, fringing and embroidery. Fur gilets, sheepskins and leathers, rustic woollens, crochet, harem pants, skirts & dresses worn over trousers and rib-knit inlays.

Colour palette: Earthy tones of brown, moss green and rust teamed up with vibrant prints, checks and crafty details.

Designer inspiration: Matthew Williamson, John Rocha, Michael Kors and House of Jazz.

Global Traveller Brands: Nomads, Nitya, Stills, Braintree Hemp Clothing, Noa Noa and Nursey.

Tailored Forms

Overall mood: Structured and tailored shapes that create a polished and sleek dressed up look.

Key pieces: Fitted jackets with nipped in waists, little bolero jackets, slim and wide leg trousers, pencil and circle skirts that finish just above the knee. Cross over waists and belts, sharp-shouldered suits, capelets, jodhpur style pants, dramatic lapels and sharp detailing.

Colour palette: Lots of black with the addition of berry and slate grey. Velvets, tweeds, subtle checks, pin and chalk stripes are also present.

Designer inspiration: Ralph Lauren, Boudicca and Jasper Conran.

Tailored Forms Brands: Amelia Toro at Pirnia Collections, O by Isabell Kristensen, Belinda Ch’ng and Zinia Limited.

Ski Luxe

Overall mood: Sportswear fused with luxury and comfort, with a gentle nod towards the retro skiwear scene.

Key pieces: Fluffy fur bomber jackets and coats, chunky polo necks, cigarette pants, quilting, A-line skirts and dresses. Hooded ponchos and capes, floor length overcoats, knit-rib finishes, sweaters worn as mini dresses, rounded details, matt combined with shiny and yeti boots.

Colour palette: Pure white, cream, natural fur tones glammed up with a touch of silver & sequins.

Designer inspiration: Dirk Bikkembergs, Fendi and Chanel.

Ski Luxe Brands: Benedikte Utzon, Siobhan Smith Ireland, James Lakeland and Christina Reg by Qubha by Negozi d’Italia.

Feminine Layers

Overall mood: Chiffon & leather, tweed & velvet, satin and wool. This elegant, romantic mood goes from day to night and even introduces some pastel colours to the usually dark and heavy autumn palette.

Key pieces: Gauzy knits, delicate chiffons, slouchy necklines, transparent cape sleeve dresses, draping and flamboyant fringing. Soft ruching, dropped waists, lace details, embossed velvets and a smattering of sequins add further glamour.

Colour palette: Heavy velvets emerge in black, emerald green and berry shades, while the lighter chiffons and satins arrive in fleshy tones, pastel pinks, greens and blues, as well as peaches and cream.

Designer inspiration: Calvin Klein, Blumarine and Sophia Kokosalaki.

Feminine Layers Brands: Kryos, Millie K, Caroline Mitchel, Somi and Bottoms.
