Director-general's new year message
2009 is going to be a year for strong business leadership. The challenges of the recession are obvious. The CBI's chief economic adviser has welcomed the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decision to reduce interest rates by 0.5% to 1.5%.
"Today's more modest interest rate cut reflects the Bank's recognition that interest rate reductions on their own cannot restore credit flows, the most important factor determining the prospects for the economy," said Ian McCafferty.
"However, this move to support business and consumer confidence will be welcomed."
