About me:
Black Fashion Designers' Network
Our Vision
Our vision is to establish a major exhibition which would be the largest black fashion organisation in the UK. This organisation would promote international innovative black talent in the fashion industry, and attract buyers from around the world, enabling black cutting edge designers to become high profile fashion leaders.
Our goal is to work towards the day when top Black and Asian designers are as well known, as the main stream fashion leaders, and their names roll off the tongue of the average consumer, as easily as we say John Galliano, Stella McCartney or Alexander McQueen. It is well known that fashion in Britain and the United States, is heavily influenced by young black style, So we would like to see our young cutting edge creators become more visible in the UK fashion industry. We wish to see them become highly respected in the industry and be profiled in the mainstream media. It as taken a long time for male designers, the likes of Oswald Boating and Wale Adeyemi to come to the fore, let alone, any female designers.
We would like create a center of excellence, such as a school, and workshops presenting seminars, and lectures and training with accredited certifications, in order to encourage and nurture the talent of young up and coming cutting edge designers. This center would launch major design competitions in order to search for new talent. This environment would provide a forum for its pupils and members to exchange and share ideas and experiences. Our vision is to see our young designers’ progress to the top fashion houses including Givenchy, Gucci and Cholë, or that they develop their own innovative fashion labels.
We will form partnerships with progressive and culturally aware supporters, who have our vision to increase the number and visibility of black designers in the industry, and who will support and encourage our members to reach their true potential in the global market place. We will form alliances with organizations that also showcase and profile individual design talent and that have the facilities to raise awareness through media coverage.
How it Started
Fashion Designers and Craftmakers Network alongside Black Fashion Designers Network are a unique agency set up to raise the profile of up and coming designers, the later network is specifically for emerging African, Caribbean and Asian designers. Set up in November 1995 by Joanna Marcella to support and promote innovative, fresh and exciting new designers.
Mission Statement
Both Networks have presented several events at venues, such as The Dome, The Tabernacle in Notting Hill, The Mermaid Theatre and The Business Design Centre in Islington. We aim to continue to bring attention and highlight the talents of ethnic designers here in the UK. By providing a forum and support group.

Who I'd like to meet:
I would like to meet established multi-cultural fashion designers and craft makers based in the UK and USA.
I would also like to meet budding young fashion designers who are at a grass roots level based in the UK from any cultural background who would like to take part in a series of fashion shows.
