I am trying to start my own clothing label at the moment and I'm finding the whole manufacturing issue a nightmare! I am looking to have really small quantities made up to start off with and I'm finding it hard to find many manufacturers that will deal with me. Have had a few costings from companies who make up in the UK but they have all been far too expensive. I think I am looking for a manufacturer that has offices in the UK but makes up abroad perhaps. I'm finding it hard to even figure out how I find companies to contact!

I used the yellow pages website and searched for ladies clothing manufacturers in different areas of england and wales. It was quite a laborious process but I'm going up to Manchester next week to visit around 6 of them. From what I've gathered over the phone from these people, some of them do have connections abroad but unless we're talking massive quantities it's not worth their while. I've decided I'm going to make my product 'exclusive' and higher priced while I'm still getting it made in this country.

hi , well im a packaging and trimming merchant in leicester so i deal with alot of these manufacturers im suprised that you kind find any ,leicester is full of them and alot of them do for arcadia and hennys and the sort

This is why we have set up the Manufacturers Online Showroom on FashionCapital. Wouldn't it be great if we could get the Leicester Manufacturesr on here too...They would get loads of business.

If any manfuactures are out there ready this Andrew from the Sampling Unit on the website said he now gets more enquiries thorugh FashionCapital than yellow pages...how impressive is that!
