Assistant Fashion Stylist for catwalk shows is required for an events company _base_d in North West London ASAP. A good background and knowledge of Indian/ Asian garments and the asian fashion industry is essential as we work with a lot of saris, shalwar kameezes and traditional dresses that require excellent draping skills. www.ooops.biz to see the kind of work we do. Initially you will be working & training under another Stylist, with a view to working independantly in the near future. Therefore we need someone who is fashion forward, fast thinking, creative, takes and gives direction well and incredibly hardworking!
On our shows, typical Stylist duties include the following:
Pre show/planning: On a creative level the stylist is responsible for coming up with themes for styling catwalk shows and implementing them: Typically this involves developing a concept around each designer’s collection that creates a theatrical stage presence. You will be making & sourcing bespoke accessories, costumes, props, designing the hair & make up look, etc all working within budgets provided.
On a practical level you are required to be organised & hands on; simple prop making & sewing skills are a distinct advantage; as well as good fashion pr agency contacts. You will be responsible for collecting and returning borrowed items, must be resourceful, able to create presentation & mood boards, , you will visit designers with the creative direct as well as have good admin skills. You will be needed to keep abreast of schedules, budgets, loans/hires, collections & returns, keeping up to date with credits etc. An excellent telephone manner is essential as you will be expected to contact hire and pr companies as well as designers.
Onsite: Along with a wardrobe manager & backstage staff you will be responsible for running fittings, keeping track of alterations, setting up backstage, allocating all outfits, props & accessories to each model, briefing dressers with styling, overseeing backstage during the shows, heading up pack up and keeping count of all items to be returned etc
This is a role where you will be required to give full commitment on a project basis, therefore it’s a role best suited to a freelancer or could also be fit around a flexible part time job.
Remuneration is also on a project to project basis and varies depending on the scale of the show- to be discussed further should you be invited for an interview. Applicants must be available immediately.
