hi emma

i have just joined this forum this evening,so thats why i'm a littl late, maybe you will have already done the work, but for the future i'd like to give you some advice.
I am a freelance designer/developer,have been for a long time, and i use the following method with work
1.Make a simple contract with what YOU want.
I will advise however forget the percentage/commission.It is impossible to follow and i have yet to come across a company who will be open with the sales achieved.
There are so many crooks in the fashion business.
2.Don't under sell yourself, maybe if the company who are going to use your design is a big/cred company then sometimes it's worth sacrifice just for your portfolio/future work.
3.Before you begin your project, issue a pro=forma invoice with your terms, demand a purchase order against your pro-forma invoice before beginning the work.
4.Don't send your work by e-mail/CD until you have been paid.
5.Don't hand over a CD of your work, even if you are at your clients office, until you have been paid.
It is to easy and fast to copy the contents onto the computer.
If you have a laptop, then use that to show,or even of course, print it out on paper,or fabric
6.Estimate your time on the project.
Hope thats of use to you and good luck

Copyright/Royalties help! 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Hi,

I'm a designer and illustrator, and I've been asked by a new lingerie business to create some patterns to be printed onto silk that can then be used for their underwear. My issue is, who will own the copyright and am I en_title_d to get a percentage of each sale? I know I'm not designing the garment, but I am designing the print for the fabric does this make a difference?

I would much appreciate advice on this as this is new teritory for me.

Thanks,
Em
