I am a designer on the market, and there really is no point asking for a discount. I know when i do move out of my shop, they will have a new tennant ready to move in, in a second. My takings have been gradually diving for a while now, and i can't help but blame it on the changing face of the market.

I have heard a lot of people say this too...has any of the designers on the market complained and asked for cheaper pitches?

Camden may not be closing down, but it may aswell be. All the redevelopment is killing the market, and it has become a tourist attraction rather than a shopping destination. The huge influx of mass produced imported clothes and fake handbags has ruined many young design businesses. I think it is a real shame.

Not sure about Spitalfields but heard that a part of Camden Stables is being closed for refurbishment and the majority of traders have been moved to other places within the market. Traders are concerned that press reports have given the impression that the entire market is closing when it is business as usual.

I have heard several rumours that both Camden Market and Spitalfields markets have been bought by developers and both will be closed within a year or so, so that some very boring apartment/offices can be built- is there any truth in this does anyone know? Cat xxx
