Hi
I understand how difficult it is when you're starting out.
But with the importance of the internet now in showcasing your work, in attracting new customers, new stockists etc, I'm not sure that this should be something necessarily done for free or too cheaply. Ultimately you will get what you pay for and you might waste a lot of time trying to get what you need using this particular approach.
More often than not the type of individuals that might respond to this type of request would generally have limited skills in one particular area - web design or web development.
Most web designers know very little about the importance of search engines, accessibility, speed of browsing around, usability etc. Mostly they focus on design along with flashing bells and whistles that actually usually adding nothing to the site but something that is irritating to the end user.
Most web developers have very little understanding of how a website needs to look to be both attractive but easy to use and focus on the behind the scenes nuts and bolts.
And then there's always the issue of support and maintenance when it's been completed and we regularly hear stories of designers/developers who have disappeared or got jobs elsewhere and are generally impossible to contact. More often than not this can lead to problems with domain names, hosting or even getting access to your own site to get help with this from someone else.
Ideally you need to find someone who will help to support you as your business grows making sure that you have the right solution in place at the right time.
Our company Vanilla Storm was formed to meet the needs of small companies and start-ups and we've worked with a number of new designers over the years doing just that. We have affordable packages that will help you get started and even though they're cheaper than "bespoke" sites, they're still optimised, easy to use and attractive.
We also understand the industry, so we'll generally talk in English (not techo-babble) about issues you'll relate to so it's then easier for us to understand exactly what you need.
If you would like some help in this area, please do not hesitate in contacting me.
