HOW TO APPROACH FASHION BUYERS 2 Months, 1 Week ago

Can anyone help I am approaching some high street stores to see if they can stock my collection. I've been told I must write a letter/proposal and send it to them along with my portfolio. Now I want to get this right as first impression counts. Are there any templates for writing a letter/propsal to a fashion buyer, are they looking for certain things? Searched the internet for examples but no joy.......
