Business support
There are an estimated 430,000 businesses in the East of England, of which 200,000 are of significant enough size to be registered for tax. A large majority are sole traders or small businesses employing one to 49 staff.
Small and medium-sized businesses that use high quality support services are more likely to achieve their potential. However, the number of businesses that seek assistance from public, private and voluntary agencies is still relatively low and needs to increase to contribute to stronger economic growth in the region.
EEDA aims to make significant improvements to the quality of support services across the region so that they are tailored to meet business needs, readily available and more small and medium-sized enterprises use them to assist in their start up, survival and growth.
In April 2005, EEDA was given responsibility from central government for managing Business Link services in the region, and after extensive consultation, EEDA is now progressing with a regional service model delivered by a single organisation.
